Pie Dough Recipe
Pie Dough Recipe for single crust pies or tarts.
- Heaping 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- Pinch of salt
- 2 1/2 oz /75 g cold butter, cut into pieces
- cold water - about 1/2 cup
Lightly grease pie or tart pan(s). Sift flour and salt together. Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine bread crumbs. Add cold water, a tablespoon at a time
and mix until dough forms. Turn onto lightly floured surface. Divide into pieces if making tartlets. Roll out to about 3 inch / 8cm wider than pan (s). Carefully lift dough into pan and press to shape. Trim edges of
excess dough. Prick sides and bottom with a fork.
For pies that are filled with ingredients that are cold or room temperature:
Place a piece of fitted parchment paper into shell(s) and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Crumpled aluminum foil can also be used. Cover and chill pie crust in refrigerator for 30 minutes. Bake blind in preheated oven at 375º F / 190º C for 30 minutes or according to pie recipe.
