Tea Circle Scones

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Wash
2 tablespoons cream
2 tablespoons sugar crystals

Preheat oven to 400º F (200º C) . Combine flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Cut in butter, mixing until crumbly. Whip buttermilk and egg together and add to flour mixture. Stir until a soft ball of dough forms. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface, turning a few times.
Divide dough in half and pat or roll out dough to one-half inch thick. Cut rounds or shapes with a cutter. Wash/brush the tops lightly with cream and sprinkle with sugar crystals. Place on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Makes 10 to 12 scones.
